According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but its exact cause is unknown.
Multiple symptoms accompany PCOS, such as infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods, excess facial and body hair growth, acne and obesity.
But another common symptom of PCOS is hair loss.
Signs and symptoms will vary among individual women, but to be diagnosed with PCOS, a doctor will look for at least two of the following symptoms:
- Menstrual Abnormality
- Polycystic Ovaries
- Excess of male hormone, Androgen.
Elevated levels of androgen in females will usually present physically as excess facial hair, adult or severe adolescent acne and/or male-pattern baldness. However, different ethnic backgrounds may not show the elevated androgen levels. Contact your Gyn Doc or an Endocrinologist today.
